In the 5th topic of our 7 Sayings on the Cross series, Joanna spoke a message on Christ's suffering on the cross and how symbolizes the bitterness and sense of unworthiness in our lives that we must overcome.

On the cross, when Jesus said: "I thirst", the drink offered to Him was vinegar mingled with gall (or myrrh), which is usually given, according to a merciful custom, as an painkiller to those who were crucified, to render them insensible to pain. Our Lord, knowing this, refuses to drink it, despite His thirst. He would take nothing to cloud his faculties or blunt the pain of dying. He chooses to suffer every element of woe in the bitter cup of agony given him by the Father.

The gall symbolizes bitterness, and the vinegar symbolizes unworthiness. These are the two things that hinders many of us from receiving God's revival. When we overcome our bitterness and eliminate the sense of unworthiness in our lives, we will have the hunger for God's fire, and experience the second wave of revival that will pour over us as we proclaim in faith.
