...The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked... - Acts 8:26-40 (NIV)

Following up with our direction towards the Antioch Church Vision, we heard from Josh that now is time to put our faith to action. To partner prayer with works, because faith without works is dead. Using the story of Philip and the Ethiopian, the emphasis of the urgency to go out and make Christ known among all nations starting from our very own backyard - schools, workplaces, etc was make known to us.

In order to get to work, we need to:

Have the heart to obey

  • Phillip didn't question God command although he was doing so well in Samaria. He was always ready to serve.

  • God's ways are higher than our ways. We would not understand him because he is divine.

  • Is God calling us to do something we don't want to do or go?

Have the courage to persevere

  • Phillip persevered to run to chase down the chariot although the circumstances were very difficult.

  • What is stopping us from obeying God? What is holding us back from chasing after the things God has called us to?

Be prepared to act

  • The Ethiopian eunuch wasn't someone of Philip's own kind. Phillip was a jew and the eunuch was a Ethiopian. Yet Phillip was prepared to act upon God's command.

  • Is is important that we know the gospel well. Phillip could evangelize effectively because he knew the Gospel well.

  • Do not let words like: "No mood", "Don't feel like it", "Not today", "I'm tired", etc.. stop us from acting.

We have to make the decision to allow ourselves to be open to be sensitive to the spirit, because the rubber will have to hit the road for things to move.
