Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

John 21:18-19

1. Follow Jesus Despite the Temptations

     •  The disciples would have been tempted to go back to fishing, their comfort zone, after    following Jesus all those years because of the shock and confusion after Jesus’ death on the cross.

o  Similarly, in the past 14 months, some of us may perhaps have lost our passion and calling to follow Christ and have been tempted to go back to what we are familiar with, comfortable with.

o  Jesus is calling us to follow Him again. Are we willing to give up what we are familiar with and follow Jesus again?

     •  Jesus restored Peter’s calling and reaffirmed his calling to feed his lambs, take care of his sheep.

o  For some of us who are lacking the motivation or perhaps passion to answer to God’s calling, Jesus is always able to reaffirm our calling. Cry out to God and ask God to reaffirm us once again.

2. Follow Jesus Despite the Difficulties

     •  Jesus affirmed Peters calling the third time. And this time, Peter took it seriously and never turned back even though Jesus foretold of the difficulties he would face.

o  There will be moments where it’s hard to follow Jesus. There are moments where we would only respond to our desires instead of God’s voice. But the assurance is that God will be there with us until the very end. We can continue to place our hope in the Lord and be confident that He will walk with us through the ups and downs.

Conclusion:

The journey of being disciple is tough. We will be faced with temptations and difficulties. But through it all, we will also learn, grow, and be healed spiritually. YM is a place where we can be discipled. Let’s choose to be part of a community that we can journey together and follow Jesus.
